'Emma' Study Afternoon

  • 23 Victoria Street Clayfield QLD 4011 Australia (map)

“I am going to take a heroine whom no one but myself will much like”, said Jane Austen.

We are greatly looking forward to our next meeting on Saturday 6 June 2026 at 1pm which is our annual study afternoon. This year the afternoon is dedicated to Jane Austen’s ‘Emma’ featuring the flawed, yet beloved, heroine – Emma Woodhouse. The meeting will be at our usual venue, St Columb’s, 23 Victoria Street, Clayfield.

Prepare to dive into disastrous picnics, social blindness, self-awareness arcs, paternal jailors, puzzles and mystery.

Our special guest speakers for the afternoon will be Scott Stephens, Online Editor of Religion and Ethics for the ABC, and Harriet Jordan, Vice President of JASA.

Romola Garai as Emma Woodhouse and Jonny Lee Miller as George Knightley in the BBC’s 2009 adaptation of ‘Emma’
