Bringing Pemberley to Life on Stage

  • 23 Victoria Street Clayfield QLD 4011 Australia (map)

Please join us at 1pm Saturday 15 April where our guest speakers will be Julie Bray and Dale Murison from Growl Theatre, Brisbane.

In 2020 and 2021, Julie and Dale were involved in presenting the first two of a trilogy of plays - Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley and The Wickhams: Christmas at Pemberley by Lauren Gunderson Margot Melcon at Growl Theatre at Lutwyche. Later this year, the third in the trilogy Georgiana and Kitty: Christmas at Pemberley will hit the Growl stage under Julie’s direction and Dale’s vocal coaching.

Julie and Dale will discuss their experience of bringing these plays to life and do some readings from both Pride and Prejudice and the plays.

Growl Theatre is a community theatre playing out of the Windsor School of Arts Hall on Lutwyche Road. Formed in 2011, the name was inspired by the suburbs from which they mainly drew their initial members & audiences [Grange, Lutwyche, Windsor, Wilston]. Of course, since then, people from all over Brisbane not only come to see the productions but also to be involved with the group. Their next show ‘Rope’ by Patrick Hamilton will open on 1 July.

Julie is a trained actor and director. She was Madame Arcati in the very first Growl show of ‘Blithe Spirit’ in 2011. Since then, she has been involved as both an actor and director on multiple Growl productions. Julie has directed both Pemberley plays and is looking forward to directing ‘Georgiana and Kitty’ later this year.

Dale has been around theatre for many years, as an actor, director and festival adjudicator but involvement with Growl started as an audience member and it was Julie who asked if she would assist with the accents for the first Pemberley production. She has since also been involved as a performer, playing Mrs Reynolds, in ‘The Wickhams’.
